A beautiful place with fantastic people
The Kastro, the most historic settlement of Sifnos, is built on a small hill with the vista of the Aegean Sea spreading before it.
Kastro
Up until the 19th century it was the capital of the island and its superiority as a defence city built to protect its inhabitants is evident today.
Kastro is located at the easternmost part of Sifnos, built on a hill overlooking the sea.
Up until the 19th century it was the capital of the island and its defence role is reflected in its unique architecture. It is a settlement with a 4000 year history, the remnants of which can be seen throughout its area.
The rocky coast is especially popular to those who prefer large flat boulders when they go swimming. Seralia, a small pebble beach 200m from the settlement, will satisfy the rest of the swimmers.
7 Martyrs
A doll-like small chapel built right by the sea. Wide cobblestone steps lead to it following a course of incredible colours.
In the summer months there are many who sunbathe on the large flat boulders around the chapel and enjoy diving in the pristine waters.
Many couples overcome the difficulty of the not-so-easy access and have their wedding here, in a truly magical setting.
Seralia
Following a small cobblestone path you arrive at Seralia, the settlement’s beach.
It is a small cove with crystal clear aqua blue waters with a pebbled beach. Here you will find restaurants that serve fresh fish and enjoy a meal by the sea.
Trekking
One of the most important trails in Sifnos starts from the Kastro. It is the trail that connects the ancient capital of the island with the old harbour that used to be at Faros. A truly magnificent course with constantly alternating scenery.
Another, short trail leads to Panagia Poulati with the small rocky shore and emerald waters. From Poulati also continues the trail that leads to Artemona and from there to Apollonia, the capital of Sifnos.
